About Us
Dedicated and determined, Dolapo Ogunmakin is a strategic powerhouse. Starting her career in hospitality, she learned and excelled at providing superior service. Later, she embarked on a career in higher education that captured her commitment to education with her desire to handle complex challenges in changing environments.
Serving a major research- extensive institution, Dolapo served as the key person responsible for the institution’s Direct Loan portfolio of over $170M annually.
Her tenacity, forward-thinking and solutions-oriented approach led her on a fast-track of progressively responsible positions, ultimately leading to the university’s Associate Director of Enrollment Management at Howard University, responsible for Enrollment Analytics. With the Enrollment Analytics in her portfolio, she led a team of professionals who handle the systems applications for the entire Enrollment Management Team (i.e. Admission, Registrar, Financial Aid, Accounting, Cashier, and Bursar). Additionally, she would be given the responsibility of institutional data reporting, which effectively served as the University’s key data source in absence of an office of institutional research.
Early on, other institutions recognized her talent and requested her services to assist with major projects such as Direct Loan transitions, new year set-up and algorithmic packaging. With the encouragement of her team, she lent her services to institutions struggling with increasing administratively burdensome regulations while shrinking financial aid staff prevented the level of touch and engagement expected from students.
Dolapo’s approach to service is built from her experiences recognizing that improved and appropriately leveraged back-end processes not only build a culture of great client services, it frees the full-time financial aid staff with time to engage and counsel students in a higher education landscape that requires more financial literacy and debt management information.
Dolapo is currently a Director of Financial Aid at Middle Georgia State University. She has a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Morgan State University. She also has a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Educating for Change from Trinity Washington University.
Dolapo’s passion for Financial Aid does not end when she leaves work. She saw the need for Financial Aid education in her community, so she started a Free Financial Aid Workshop program in 2009, where she educates parents, guardians, and students on Financial Aid. Her ultimate goal/retirement plan in life is to design the curriculum for a school she hopes to build in Esa-Oke, Osun State, Nigeria in the future.
It was Confucius who stated that one should “choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” To know Dolapo, is to know that Dolapo has never worked a day in Financial Aid because she loves what she does.
